Oakland SX 1979...

It's been over 30 years since SX has been to Oakland Alemeda Stadium. The last time they raced there Jimmy Weinert won the race. It was a very, very sandy track. Just before the main Weinert had his mechanic mount up a paddle tire on his bike. It was equal parts psych game and performance advantage. Weinert wound up winning the race and the AMA banned paddle tires from competition a few days later.

Interesting character that Weinert, the neck brace you see him wearing was something he showed up wearing on race day. He wasn't hurt at all, he just wanted the competition to think he wasn't at 100%. Good times.

Bits & Pieces... Phoenix

click on images to view them larger...

The Nike boots that Stewart and Dungey run are looking more and more like production models.

Tye Simmonds (semi) privateer KTM 350

Jimmy DeCotis (#66) will be riding Wil Hahn's bike until Hahn returns. Me thinks DeCotis might be good for a top five in L.A. this Saturday.

Digging the matte finish on Stewart's lid.

The factory Honda's ALWAYS look spotless.

Hansen's 2 for 2 so far this year. Will he keep winning?

Think Stewart was pumped on his first win in a year?

Yep, I'd say he's pumped.
